English oil on panel of a stable interior scene with figures, donkey and dog (School of George Morland). Circa 1800. Morland was a child prodigy who first exhibited at the RA at age ten. Later in life fond of gin, he spent most of his life dodging creditors. He painted rustic scenes and coastal subjects. He wrote his own epitaph "Here lies a drunken dog."
